Using the book, Eyes of the Heart: Photography as a Christian Contemplative Practice by Christine Valters Paintner,  our group set out to “see” the world in a different way. We were guided to slow down, appreciate, look beyond and to reflect on how what we see affects the nature of our hearts.   More than "taking pictures", we  “receive images” as gifts of God’s grace and revelation.

We looked at the play of light/dark around us/within us.   What do we choose to include/exclude, receive/ reject.   What does color reveal about our spiritual lives?  What do we see when we take selfies or look in the mirror?  Do we see images of God where, perhaps, we’ve never seen God before?

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”  - Marcel Proust,  French author
“Lord, purge our eyes to see within the seed a tree, within the glowing egg a bird, within the shroud a butterfly.  Till, taught by such we see…Beyond all creatures, Thee.”   -Christina Rossetti, 19th century English poet.

If you are interested in contemplative photography, the group continues to meet.  Gary Schroeher, Redeemer member and fellow-photographer, has agreed to lead the group.  EMAIL GARY to join or for more information.

From time to time, new photographs will be added to this web page for all to view.

Enjoy!   Pastor Candee
